With the efforts of Vidya Sagar Charitable Trust, KIST was formed in year 2001. The institute is approved by AICTE, government of Orissa and is affiliated by Biju Pattnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela. The campus is spread over the area of 35 acres of land and covers the 60,000 square feet of infrastructure. The institute provides academic programme for under graduation and post graduation. The institute has state-of-art labs, workshops, computer centre which has excellent internet facility 24 hours.
The institute also provide hostel facility for the students. It has 300 hostel seats for boys and 200 seats for girls. The hostel has its mess in which food is prepared by the professional chefs taking hygienic norms into consideration. The hostel provides 24 hour water supply, power supply, T.V., telephone, magazines, newspapers, indoor games and first aid facility to the students. To make hostel life interesting, it has a common room facility where students assemble to play games, discuss educational topics and creates interaction among them.

The KIST also provides transportation facility for the students residing to the nearby areas. The institute has owns 15 buses which provide transportation services in reasonable cost. This saves time and cost for the students residing near to college.
